Default 96" engine noise

I bought an 07 RoadKing, and it seems to have alot of engine noise at cruise speed. If you are on the throttle or off the throttle its doesnt seem bad. But on a 100mile ride yesterday I noticed it more at a steady cruise mainly around 40mph in 4th. But it does it in every gear at that certain RPM where there's really no load on the engine. Hard to explain, sounds like cam/lifter noise. But not sure. I didnt think the 96" had those issues.
What should I look for? Need some advice

Shane

Sounds like rocker arm clatter, which is typical.

My wife's '08 does this also.
You need to either, go faster, downshift to lower gear, or install some V&H pipes!

Years ago, when I first rode my '92 Heritage (before Stage I kit) I thought my engine had a rod knock! The dealer claimed the sound was due to a "hard cam". Once the new pipes were installed, the new noise covered the old noise and all was well.

pushrod engines are generally noisey........I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it gets progressively worse

I agree with the above. It's an air-cooled engine (no cooling jacket) OHV with external pushrods, bound to make a little music. I think my new engine does the same thing when unloaded. Under power, cruising down the road the only music I hear is that produced by my Pythons!!
