Hello all!,
I recently picked up a 1997 Evo Road King, a few weeks back. I am going to do a full service on the fluids this weekend. The only thing remaining for me to buy, is grease for the zerk fitting on the steering stem.
Can I use a multi-purpose grease on the steering stem (triple trees)? Or; would a synthetic grease be better? My service manual just mentioned a HD grease part #. I usually just buy my supplies at NAPA, Autozone, or Walley World. Any help is appreciated!
go get you some red n tacky or TRC grease, I use it and I don't get any slobber from hot grease in the summer. If you use plain ol grease, you are going to have a mess.

DITTO!
I add a couple of pumps of the grease gun every oil change.
the real thick ... high temp stuff tends to stay in the neck...i haven't used the stuff they talk about but i have used high temp lucas syn grease i think...
I use Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease. It's pretty thick stuff and has the added bonus of being very water and corrosion resistant since it is meant for submerged trailers. I've never had any leak out in the 100*F+ summer days yet

Thats some sound advice right there. Did mine like 3 years ago with the HD grease and I still got grease puking out the neck today. Besides the "recommended" HD grease, pumping it clear full till it pushed out the top and bottom was one of my big mistakes, but can I get away with filling/purging it with red n tacky via the zerk, or do I need to pull the tree and clean it all up and start over.
