Installing my new arlen ness true duals on my 09 sg has been nothing but one battle after another. First I couldn't get the right side slip on to even budge. After an hour I finally got it off. Then I couldn't get a nut off the front head pipe. Another hour battle. Then I couldn't undo the bolt on the center bracket. The list goes on. Finally got the old exhaust off and couldn't get the new crush gaskets in. Now I'm stuck trying to get the stupid crossover pipe to completely go on. I quit for now. I'll tackle it again tomorrow when I don't feel like kicking the bike over.
I just got done installing my exhaust. Everything went well until I got to the slip ons. For some reason, they wouldn't slip on! I pushed and twisted for what seemed like for ever until "pop!" They seemed to get over the hang up and they flew on. Happened with each one. Must have been a little lip or something holding each one back. Other than that, super easy. I'm thinking it was made easier because my bike only had 900 miles. My nine year old RK seemed to fight me more the older she got. Bottom line, take breaks and don't get mad!

Sometimes just a wee little bit of anti seize is just what the doctor ordered! And those mufflers will come off a lot easier later as well
Stay cool, take a break and have a beer...ok, maybe 2...LOL. Sometimes I get the same way and I do what you did, walk away for awhile, maybe a day and go back at it with a fresh attitude, after my beer...LOL. Good luck, exhaust stuff is a pain!
drugs and alcohol are required to do all work on bikes!!!
only kidding, don't believe in either. when you do get mad, walk away and come back in a little bit. remember, if it has tires or ****, you're going to have troubles!!!
They're not call slip-offs for a reason. LOL! Kudos for walking away - I am sometimes not so smart, and pay the price for it. When doing my own exhaust, both times I had to take the slip-ons "off" - first time stock, and then later the V&H - the right side gave me trouble and the left was easy peasy. Luck o' the draw.
I had the most success with the front exhaust flange bolts coming at it from the left side of the bike, swapping between 3/4" drive socket w/ & w/o extension. Didn't have a 1/4" drive, but am seeing how that would likely make for less swearing.
