Same problem supposedly there's a bad problem with connection to the display from the factory. Mine comes on and off and has vertical lines going through it. Everything still works though, but a pain in the a$$.
There is no bad connection from the factory.
Most common display issue is from liquid damage.
As part of all our repairs, additional liquid damage protection is installed at the faceplate PCB
Well, hell. My SG is 5 days old with just 350 miles on it, took a quick ride today and had horizontal lines all through my display. Could barely read it. Turned it off/on, shut off ignition, no change. Looks like I'll give the dealer a heads up to make sure they have a replacement unit for me at my 1k service. Not too impressed with the HK reliability from what I'm reading...
Judging from the fact that every complaint I've read on it points to the display, I'd agree that it may be a good unit, but the display obviously has some issues - maybe minor, but it still mars the experience of buying a new bike.
I just got a call from the dealer that my tags are in, I'll stop by and let them know they'll need to swap this out at my 1K visit...probably have them do pipes and a 4-point mount at the same time.
I'm still a little cheesed, but the weather cleared enough for me to ride in to work today (hour each way) and that went a long way toward clearing my head...
Suggestion: Ask the dealer to send your radio to Iron Cross Audio for repair--many here have used them and it will come back to you better than the refurb radio HD will supply to your dealer.
I really think that this is a common problem with modern Electronics. The info part of my dash on my 2007 Yukon is hard to see on bright days, unit needs to be replaced to fix. The radio dial in my boat radio quit working last summer but the radio works fine in spite of that, a hand held GPS did the same thing a few years ago, with out the screen it had to go. My radio is only visible in the garage on my EG
Mine display went after I had washed it last year but still played. The display would fade in and out while riding. It finally came back on and has not gone out since. I think moisture had gotten into the display and finally evaporated. I don't wash near the radio anymore.
Every industry has comebacks, it just can't be helped. We all try to minimize it the best we can. The more you produce the more % comebacks there will be. It's how the company deals with their returns that will help keep the customer for future sales.
Remember Harley didn't produce the HK radio in your bike it is/was subcontracted. It might have left HK fine, maybe it got dropped somewhere down the line during shipping, maybe some forklift driver drove like a A-hole, who knows what really happened as long as it gets taken care of.
My '07 Street Glide radio not only has blank display, but the power button does not work at all. Can't turn it off; it is always on. Therefore can't set clock as well.
I am torn between sending it to Iron Cross or throwing it in the garbage and buying a Sony with the handle bar control kit.
