Rode in strong winds friday and got bucked around pretty good on the Electra. About 40 miles into the ride I got behind a lone Road Glide that pulled out for a side street in a small town and followed him for a bit.
Well he didnt seem to have as much if any problem with the gusty winds that were throwing me around the highway! In fact I backed down to 55 and slowly lost him in the distance.........
Was in the dealership the next day and was told how much better the sharknose is in the wind (salesman is on his 5th RG) and how if I just rode one I wouldnt look back! One of the parts guys has 2 RG's and said for larger folks like myself the RG is the ticket and is kinda like Harleys well kept secret........
So who here has a fugly that would like to sell me on the benifets over the batwing?
Smaller faring, smaller surface area, different shape, smaller wind resistance, frame mounted. It's not rocket science, but it remains fugly!
Thats just it! I have my heart set on a Ultra or maybe a limited. The salesman tried yesterday to get me to test ride the RG,,,,,"take it out on the Interstate and find an 18 wheeler" "You will be sold when you dont get that uneasy bouncing around like you do with the batwing"
I didnt ride one, I am just afraid I might like one!

+1 Two friends with them, I rode them both, they do a REAL good job of cutting the wind, but like others, I just can't deal with the styling ... although lately I've seen a few that are beginning to catch my eye, so who knows .....

+1.
I don't like the looks of the fairing and it's worse from the driver side. The instrument panel is too far away from the driver and it looks like crap.
To each his own, but not for me.
They also brought back the x-stream which isn't quite as radical and I was a tester for it. I like the Stealth but both work to reduce the wind turbulence. You can view effect of this type windshield by looking at KlockWerks video. It reverses the uplift wind force (25 lbs.) and creates downforce of about 15 lbs.
