Default Exhaust gasket question

Have a nasty crack in my RKC Y-pipe. Wrestled it out of the bike this morning and dropped it off to a local guy to be TIG welded. After I pulled the pipes I went to retreive the exhaust gasket and...there wasn't one. I've seen them mashed pretty bad on other bikes to where I had to use a hook or twist them with needle-nose to get them out, but I never saw one flat out evaporate. I ran a scraping tool around the rim to see if there was any gasket residue. Nothing.

Possible that the 2007 RKs shipped without gaskets? Never heard of that. I plan to drop one in either way. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. Weird. Thanks.

Anything is possible. But scrape hard with a hook-type pick to see if there is really not a gasket there. It may be compressed so well that it appears there is no gasket.
BTW, I might consider a new header all together since the old one is off. Good time to perform an upgrade if you have ever thought of doing so.

Just put a new gasket in my rear head last week. Had to pull left side exhaust to pull rear axle. I didn't see one at first because I am used to the old style with the copper washer. The port will step down to a smaller diameter about an inch inside the port. It is real easy to see the landing in there if there is no gasket. It's flush with the gasket in. I poked my old one with a scribe where the pipe crushed it and it has a wire mesh imbeded in it. Used the hook end at the land and it pulled right out. New one is only a couple of bucks so I bought two, one for the wall O parts.
New one doesn't go in real easy but it went.
