So I was tooling on I-95 in the center lane keeping up with the Fla traffic going at a 80+mph clip when I went to change lanes to the left lane to get put some space between my Ultra and the dude on my ***. Next 30 seconds seem like an hour in my memory. As I went over the lane marker, my front end started shaking violently and next thing, I was sliding on the right side of the Ultra towards the center median, hanging on for dear life. Something caught in the asphalt and the big bike flipped over to the left side, tossing me into the air and so I flew into the steel guard rail, slammed into it and fell to the ground.
All this time, I'me thinking "Hey 36 years riding and I'm going to die in a bike accident!" So I lay on the ground for dont know how long and I can feel my legs and arms and everything else still attached to the old torso. I feel an incredible jolt of joy for being alive.
Make a long story short, after a stint in the trauma center(life flighted!), sleeping in a recliner for weeks, realizing I have an incredible wife, going through growing new skin, healing broken bones in my hand and physical therapy to get some strength back so I could pull in the clutch on my other bike, I finally got on my road king and went for a 20 minute ride and couldnt keep the f**king grin off my face. Yup, I'm surely blessed!
glad your back up, what made the bike start shaking.
Dont really know, my man. Everyone has a different theory. It was a 2011 and maintained by the book. Best I can figure out is when I changed lanes at a high rate of speed, I hit the perfect storm so to speak. Probably went over a hump and unsettled the front end. I definately didnt bottom the shocks or anything like that. The five guys I was riding with all saw it happen and the trooper who came to see me later said he had seen the same thing before.

I was just curious, been thinking of trading up from a SG to an ultra. I frequently ride at 80mph and sometimes think twice about changing lanes when the asphalt is un even..
I totally understand the grin from ear to ear thing.
