Default LRS Road King windshield review

Taking advantage of the 40 percent discount sale, I ordered a 19" clear recurve last week. I got shipping notification the next day and it arrived just a few days later, pretty impressive considering I'm in Japan.

Here are my impressions: All the holes line up perfectly with the OEM mounting hardware so it was a cinch to mount. Optical clarity is excellent, even through the recurve area. The shield's acrylic material is a little thinner than the stock shield but I didn't notice any fluttering at idle or at speed. I'm 5'7" inches with a 30" inseam so I went with the 19'' recurve with the hope that it would reduce the noisy turbulence I experience with the stock windshield at higher speeds.

Turns out that the 19" height is virtually the same as stock. I was hoping the recurve would do more to reduce the turbulence at higher speeds but I still noticed it today on the way to work, but there were some crosswinds so I'll check it again tonight when I superslab it home. Not sure if the 21" would work better for my height, might be in my line of vision too much. Still, considering I paid just $65 I'm satisfied. I figure if it turns out that it doesn't reduce the turbulence better than the stock shield at the present height I'll just cut it down with a Dremel and use it as a short summer shield.

Overall I highly recommend LRS for both the service and product, and doubly so when they're on sale. Great value.

I have to say there are some very strange comments in your review. No insult intended, but this past winter I ordered my LRS 19". Two things are indisputable: First, the LRS shield is definitely thicker than the stock shield, there is absolutely no question about that. I'm staring at the two right now.

2nd is that the 19" LRS is shorter than stock, by about 3". Works great for me, my stock shield was way too tall, the 19" is perfect, I look over it and not through it.

I never really had a problem with buffeting, but despite the shorter length, still no problem, presumably because of the flare at the top.

Im 5-8 and find that looking thru the windshield makes for less turbulence and buffeting as apposed to the one I had on my Yammer that I looked over. I know, everyone will tell you the proper way for the perfect windshield fit is to look over it, but the taller shield came on the bike when I bought it and it was a pleasant surprise. I havnt ridden it without the shield and see a lot of RKs in sig pics without so after putting on my apes on Im going to see how wind buffeting feels without it. (My .02)

I have the 19 incher, I'm 5-10. On the highway, when sitting in reasonably proper posture (not slouching but not bolt upright), if I put my hand over my head I can feel the 'ceiling' of air flowing about 2-3 inches above my head. I'm looking over the shield, not through it.

No insult taken. Pulled out the measuring tape when I got home. The HD shield is a 1/2" longer when you line up the bracket holes and 1/2mm thicker (4mm versus 3.5mm). Maybe the HD export spec is different than stateside.

Interesting given my 3" shorter height/30" inseam, I look above it, appears to be in the sweet spot between my nose and mouth, but then I have a Sun-ray seat (heated version of the Sundowner), not stock.

I also have a 19 inch LRS the extra dark one I am 5'7" I see over the top just fine.

I had a 14 inch wind deflector before with a lot of buffeting, now most all buffeting is gone.

I have an LRS 19" as well. I can see over it very well. It is MUCH quieter than the stock shield as well. I will say that it is neither as clear or as thick as the stock one though. There is no way I would buy one to look through it. The stock one is much clearer...

I found the closer to the winshield I am the less buffeting I get. After putting my Mustang seat on the bike it pulled me further away from the shield (about 2") I noticed I get pounded by the wind more. The closer to the tank I adjust my backrest the less buffeting I get. Theres a fraction of protection the shield will give depending on how close you are to the shield.I seen a picture of a real old FL model where it looked like the rider was really close to the windshield, I betcha I can tell ya why.

Probably different lots of plastic...I wish mine was clearer but didn't expect much at the price I paid. It's a good shield for the money...
