I got a pretty good deal on SE Adj. Push rods, the only prob is they are missing 3 of the jam nuts. They are 3/8 24 and have a hex size of 1/2 instead of the normal 9/16 for a 3/8 nut. Any ideas?? I have picked up 4 regular Grade 8 nuts but not sure if I should use them or not.. I'd appreciate any input from some of you guys that care to input..
I had my original 1/2 outside ones break. I took grade 8 3/8-24 and filed the points off the corners to make th a smaller diameter. Worked fine. Cleared the pushrods tubes. Not sure if the stock tubes have the same od or the slip joints are the right lenghts
i also recall a post in here where the guy took a 1/2 inch nut wrench size actually a 5/16 thread and drilled the inside out to a 3/8-24 and retapped it not sure how much sidewall would be left but im sure its close to the original hd ones.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll file the points off like you did and call it good. Cam tensioner replacement Sunday night, after everyone else has gone to bed...
You might look at your local WELL EQUIPPED Ace and see if they have any 3/8-24 jam nuts. I haven't measured them my self, but its worth a look to see if they are the right size hex. Just an idea.
3/8 will always be 9/16 wrench and 5/16 will always be 1/2 wrench thats the way the standard works unless its a specially made nut like the hd ones. Im sure they made them this way for 2 reasons one being to clear the push rod tubes since the push rods dont go exactly straight up and down as the rocker arm moves while being pushed up and 2nd weight -- the hd ones are some kind of light weight stuff brittle as hell this extra weight moving that fast is an extra mass of inertia . i kind of like the 1/2 nut drilled out to 3/8-24 but didnt think of it when i was scrambling for nuts. also mass wise the regular nuts are about 2 times as long as the specialty ones. will give more thread area for grip but again more weight.
