Default Main shaft nut size

Anyone tell me what size the main shaft nut is, or socket size for a 2010 FLTRX.

IIRC, that nut requires a 2-1/4" socket. You can buy the socket and donut from George's garage for about $85 or, if you or a buddy can weld, buy a socket in 3/4" drive from Tractor Supply for about $12 and cut in in half, weld in a 5" extension, fabricate a donut and go that route. That nut can be a b!tch to loosen; a 3/4" electric impact often works but letting it soak in some penetrating oil over night helps. Sometimes a long cheater pipe is required. Remeber, it is right hand threaded; CCW to loosen. Good luck.

Always thought that the mainshaft nut was 1 3/16 inch with left handed threads. (turn CW to loosen).

That is true for the pre-'07 models with the five speed. The later nut on the six speeds is 2-1/4" and, IIRC, it is right hand threaded nut. The OP can confirm for us thought as I believe the rotation direction to loosen the nut is marked on the nut.

I am certain about the nut size but could be mistaken on the left/right thread. Both my bikes are early models with left hand threaded 1-3/16" nuts as you point out above. My brothers later model softail is the only later model I have worked on but, like I said, IIRC, the later model main shaft nut is right hand threaded.

Thanks for the input, I used a 1 1/4 deep impact 6 point and it came off. The bigger problem was the bearing race which was scored, I didn't have the puller so I took a die grinder and cut a slot in the race hit it lightly with a chisel and it cracked and came off. I picked up a new race which I will heat up in hot oil to expand it and try to install with the help of a brass drift tomorrow. Hope that works.

I think you mean 2-1/4?? Good luck with the IPB install but I don't think you will have much luck with the brass drift. I have installed many and none of the ones I have installed could have been installed that way. Heating the race up helps but it will cool long before it is in place.

Correct 5 speeds left hand thread
6 speed right hand

The clutch nut is still left hand on the 6 speeds. But right on the MDG pulley.
