Default Electrical Issue?!?!?!

I bought a 2006 Ultra Classic a few weeks ago, I have put a few hundered miles on it now and had an issue today on my ride home. While i was going down the interstate the speedo and tac started turning off and then back on, sometimes at the same time and some times independatly. I got off the interstate a few minutes later and it seemed to be fine, once i took off again and got to about 15 mph both gages died again and the radio died. It came back on once or twice for a few seconds and then died again for the last 2 or 3 miles home, once home i shut the bike off and turned it on again, then it all worked fine, have not ridin again yet, Loose wiring? Let me know if you have any ideas....

The first thing I would do is check for DTCs (Diagnostic Test Codes). If you don't know how to do that, there are threads here that explain the process. As much as searching on this site sucks, that's what you'll need to do unless another good samaritan can post it here.

I'd start looking for a loose/bad ground. or possibly a broken wire in a harness someplace. Look for the DTC's as mentioned, then start looking for a loose broken or coroded connection. Keeep us posted on progress. Those electrical gremlins are tough to weed out sometimes. Do check your voltages, even a loose battery connection can cause what you are experiencing.

Thanks for the assistance so far, found one code which was U1097, and found that responds to loss of speedometer signal, which makes sence, i have been checking all the connections in the fairing and around the the fuse box, ill pull that tank tomorrow and check all the wires between the two, I did find that the fairing supports that connect under the speakers were both broken. Thanks for the help so far.

Check the wiring under the fairing. the wire you are looking for is data communication wire I found a wire rubbed bare on top of the radio. I would look at wire that is close to metal structures or in tight bends. good luck you will find it.

Check the ground at the triple tree...it is the ground connection for the whole front end. It connects the front end to the rest of the frame........

I Check the wiring under the fairing, didnt find much, but i did tighten everything up, the ground wire from the fairing did have a bit of corrosion on, cleaned it, put it all back together and gave it a test ride, no issues, guess ill have to spend the rest of the day riding it....
