Trailering Question
Canedog, sorry for this stupid question but if you don't tie the front from the handlebars, what do you tie to? I have an 07 Ultra coming in Jan and will need to trailer it home from the dealer due to the weather here. I have a closed in trailer with wheel chock which I normally use for lawn equipment. Haven't had a bike in it yet.

No attatching to handlebars, luggage racks or engine guard . I attatch to the front forks where the fender is bolted and tension is forward. A strap around each passenger footboard bracket out at a 45* angle and forward. Rock solid.
Yes, SOOS, I took your pictures you sent me 4/5 months ago and kept them on file. So I remembered how to properly tie a bike down. I just hauled mine from Indiana to Alabama , last week and it did not move at all. Bad roads and 90 mph didnt bother it. I just use 4 sets of ratchett straps on each side of the bike.. Sorry to steal your Question about trailering.
Hey, Hogtoad, I posted earler that I use 4 straps on each side and one of them Is on the handlebars, In a 6 ft. trailer there is enough width to pull straight out and down, not forward or back . I just done it on my ultra. Using the E track system makes that task verry easy to do. You have infinate adjustments with that system. I have about $100 in the whole system. and it,s all new, not used stuff. If anyone wants more info, let me know.

Thanks guys for all the good information! For now I'm stuck with the open trailer. I own it and it's going to have to do for now. I'm planning a trip from Pittsburgh, Pa. to Florida in Feb. Riding it that far with weather conditions is not going to happen so hopefully it will be dry when I leave. The return trip will not be an issue as I'll have plenty of time to scrub off the grime when I get home.
I doubt if I'll trailer it often enough to justify the cost of an enclosed trailer but you never know. Thanks again!

mariner227, When you start looking for an enclosed trailer, I found a lot better price by ordering it directly from the factor nearest to where you live and driving mover there and picking it up yourself. I bought a Haulmark, 6x10 with brakes and side door and wheel chock, stabilizers and ramp door for 2500 flat!!! at Internet trailer sales.com No I don,t have anything to do with them. they just had good service and products.
This is what I do:
On the front on each side I use a cinch strap to the frame in front of the motor behind the crash bar. This is stronger and more rigid than the crash bar, the crash bar will flex some (the frame will not) then I run a strap to the trailer from the cinch strap. The sinch strap holds the bike tight and does not scratch it at all. I do this right where the frame starts yoke is, right behind the front tire. The bike is real stable this way. On the back all I do is run a strap from each side of the frame to the trailer again using the cinch straps.
This works well for me.If I were going to use the bars it would be in real tight, Rememer that is a tube, and will bend. The frame is the most rigid part on the bike so why not take advantage of that material. Rather be safe than be sorry. I have a killer M/C trailer now but have hauler about every thing all over the place.
Note: What I call a cinch strap - a strap with a loop on each end that does not adjust. I found mine at the HD dealer years ago.
