I'm going to lower the front forks on my 2010 SG 1" and I'm trying to decide on which kit to get. I wanted the Progressive Monotubes, but that's more money than I want to spend. I've also ruled out the Progressive drop-in springs. I think the best option for me is a replacment fork spring set.
Which kit would be better, the HD 1" lowering kit (54564-09) or the Progressive 1-2" lowering kit (10-1561)? The HD kit comes with new fork springs and new dampening rods. The Progressive kit comes with new forks springs, new top-out springs and PVC spacers. My concern with the HD kit is that I've read that it really only drops the front end about 0.7". My concern with the Progressive kit is that it doesnt come with new dampening rods and I'll have to cut the PVC spacers. Any help is appreciated.
I did the HD kit in mine. From what I can tell the only thing that was shorter was the dampening rod. The spring looked exactly the same. Sure, it may be a higher rate spring but it a exactly the same. I wish I did one that didn't require me to year the whole forks apart to remove them because I lite and lower it all the time depending on which wheels I use up front. The 18" or the 21"
I would save a little longer and get the monotubes, the handling is well worth it. If your going to go through taking the front end apart, just do it once and be done with it.

X2 on this. I did the HD kit, bike rode like **** and all kinds of "different" noises out of the front end. I switched to the Progressive Drop In kit. It rides better and no noises, but if I did it again, I would spend the money and do it right. I went down 1.5 inches and I've had my front end apart 4 times messing with these kits and adjusting the height to get the bike where I want it to sit. I still am not happy with it and want to change the fork oil to a 50/50 mixture of stock and SE oil but I don't want to tear it apart again, even though I'm damn good at tearing it down!! LOL!!
Go with the Progressive Kit over the HD Kit IMO better springs. Iver used the Progressive kit on a 05 Fatboy and a 05 RK and with a better fork oil there is an improvement, but if you can wait save and get the Monotubes. I have them in my Road Glide and they are far better than the stock set up with or without lowering kits.
I'd go with the race tech kit over either harley or progressive. On the cheap, Ya could just get the shorter damper tubes and use the stock springs. Make pvc pipe spacers to fit. No worse than the harley or progressive kit.
