My sg is my favorite bike ever owned or even ridden. I'm looking to get her really humming and I'm thinking cams unless you guys have other suggestions. I already did the heavy breather (might have to change that), sert, and vance and hines pipes. I'm looking for power but also reliability and some mild manners when my girl is on the back just cruising. This should be attainable I'm thinking. It's a 96" if that matters. Thanks
Adding a cam was the best upgrade I made for peformance at a reasonable price. Pick a good cam and you will be happy. May I suggest the Andrews 26. I love my Andrews 21 but it is better suited for 88" bikes. Do a search...and let the hours of reading begin!
If you add cams and higher comp pistons you can get yet more, or add in a head port job as well. Air filter and exhaust as well, especially a 2-into-1. There are several sponsors of HDF who offer suitable tuning packages.
She rides great. All around a great bike. I've owned 3 hogs and this is my dream bike. Just want a little more seat of your pants fun...that's all. You're right though, I don't want to sacrifice it's dependability.
I think that a stock 96" would respond better with the TW-5-6 unless you plan on bumping the compression with (at least) a Cometic .030 gasket. You'll get back some of the compression lost when going to the longer duration cam.
