Yep that was a chore...most all I ever seen are closed on mondays...

HOG book had a list of all the dealers and the days they are open...haul it with me also...it came in handy this time. Web search at night on my netbook PC confirmed they were open.
Lots of them are open on Sunday but no service guys there.

Plug kits vare invaluable as I had a flat 150 miles from NOWHERE.

Plugged the tire, filled it with my 12V air compressor and rode the 150 miles into Montana for a tire change.

Like you spend the better part of 4 hrs waiting for a tire replacement and ended up having to get a motel room so I could bring the bike back the next morning.

Ended up paying way too much for the tire and the labour charge. So much for being taken advantaged of by the Stealership.

Like most will tell you; the next time I'll trust the plug.

Happy to hear that you and your wife are OK!

On a similar note, just today, I ordered the Slime compressor 40001 but could not decide on a plug kit.

I've heard about the Stop & Go package. Although it looks substantial, I'm wary in that it does not use any sort of vulcanizing fluid to bond the plug to the tire. Do you all have any other recommendations for a quality plug kit?

Check the price for a new tire at your local dealer, probably close to the same you paid. Definitely not a deal.

The kit I used was a Slime kit I bought at Walmart that has the T handle reamer and plug insert tools. It also has the two different sizes of string plugs. It has the rubber cement that acts as a lubricant and sealant. I tested it with soapy water at full inflation of the tire and it did not bubble at all.
I really like the idea of those fancy plugs but not sure they will work in every application. Those tires on these new bikes are thick...lot thicker than I thought with I used the reamer to open the hole up so I can get the plug in it.

You right there was not much difference in the cost of the tire.
My dealer charged $250 for the tire and $50 to put it on...just a few months ago.
This dealer charged $234 for the tire and one hour labor $74 to put it on
Not enough to worry about.

Well for the flat enthusiast. I have the profile laced wheels and picked up a screw some time ago. book says tubless tires? I plugged it and as the tire only had 3000 miles on it thought I would run as long as I didn't take a long trip. Couple of weeks ago the tire went flat so I took it to a indy. He insisted there was a tube there. I said I pluged it and have run it 8000 miles since. When broke down the the plug had pushed against the hole in the tube and sealed it. Needless to say new tube went in. I was very lucky for dumb person believeing that tubless meant tubless.....

It was one of them American Elite black walls.

I agree...I was really surprized myself. I thought sure it would have came off the rim at least. It was so hot you could not touch it when I was looking for the hole. Maybe it was hot welded to the rim.

I sent my bike up to my dealer via a buddies trailer, (since he was going anyway and hauling his bike for some service) to replace the wore out factory stock tire and do a 10K service. It came back with the American ELite on it.

I was kinda pissed at first since the American Elites are about $198 on Jake Wilson website but, really could not tell any difference in the handling from the factory stock tire. With 4469 miles on it, it already started to feather just a little on the edges. My first stock tire feathered so bad it sounded like a ground grip tire when I got it off center. ??? Must be my riding style. That happend regularly on my Yamaha Venture touring bike with a Dunlop Elite 3.

Now it has a HD stock tire back on it. Just what they had at the dealer I stopped at. I was just proud it was round and held air at the time.
