Flat this weekend on a trip...
You probably need a bottle of water or 2 with you also... I got dang thrusty fixing that tire, but I was already thrusty before.
I plugged an almost new tire and put an additional 8,000 miles on it without any problems.
The little co2 canisters work great and refills are cheap on Ebay.
Be careful, they get really cold while filling the tire!
Glad you came out alright.
Some more high tech than others. Depending on what you want to use.
I am not sure if one is a great deal better than the others, I have run the old string type plugs in car tires for the life of the tires.
This is the one I used with the T handles on the old style string type plugs. It has 2 different sizes of the string plugs. I used the smaller longer string plug in this pack to get me up and going. I do buy a new tube of rubber cement each year before riding season, to make sure it is still good and not dried up.
It worked good for me and quick. I think I bought it a Walmart.

Some folks plug a tire on a bike and never look back. I might have road home on the plug if my wife would not have been with me...But the tire would be changed as soon as I got home.
I dont see any reason to take the risk if it is not neccessary and I can find the money to change the tire.
All of us have different levels of acceptable risk...some will plug a bike tire and never worry about it again, some will use the plugs for emergeny only.
