10" dark smoked works for all occasions here......
Pushes the brunt of wind "up & over" my melon.....
I can actually ride w/out eye protection up to 35 / 45
with no problems, and I wear contacts.
Feel sorry for everybody fighting to find the correct / right
windshield to fit !!!!
I do have the windshield 'collection' like many but I'm really sold on the 'madstad' windshield that I have on my road glide now. I kept the factory one for 'looks' but I doubt I'll bother changing it back and forth
I rode tens of thousands of miles without a windshield. When I started riding behind a windshield, for the first two bikes it was a full height, look through shield. I thought that was ok until I had to ride through heavy rain.
Now I have an 8" recurve that I could paint black without effecting my vision and provides all the wind protection I need.
No need to change shields unless this one gets broken.

Edited to add I had to change several times to find the one that worked on my SG
I do.
I mostly ride with a 6.5" KW flare.
However when my wife rides along she hates it.
I have 10" recurve I slip in for those occasions.
I have used the bigger shield on a long road trip too.
I haven't taken off my 6.5" Klock Werks Flare windshield since I installed it. It works just as good at 10 mph as it does at 90 mph and still has the low stock look.
I used to change my shields out all the time on my Ultra. However, about a year ago I bought a baggershield. I can leave it at the 8" height for looks, warm weather or low speed cruising, or in a few seconds adjust it up to the 12" height for cool weather or highway speeds. I tried the happy medium 10" shield, but it was not quite enough protection when I needed it or too much when I wanted more air.
Does ON or OFF count as changing a windshield? For road trips my road king runs a full shield that I can see over (about 16") but I do like the wind in my face when I can for shorter runs.
