New Glide shields must be different than my ol' '78 FL. It was pretty much straight across the bottom, with slotted mounting holes.

pococj, same as my 73 FLH. I posted, I had a windshield cut for mine too. A piece of lexan that I polished the edge and drilled the holes.
What I remember, the holes were the worst. There's a good possibility you'll end up with a crack drilling holes vs. trimming and polishing the top edge.

That's my experience, and that's all I got to say about that.

Never thought of it as being like nonskid. It would have more of a grain than nonskid, tho. Y'know what the Harley engines that are black from the factory look like? There've been 2 versions, a smooth satin black, and a textured black. The textured black is a "wrinkle" type product.
Got it! Thanks.

On the windshield, I'll wait until home, and then take a look at 'er...thanks for all the helps fellas.

The correct height of your Batwing windshield should be at the same horizontal plane as your upper lip. This will give you a clear view of the road ahead, with no distraction from the top edge, and the buffeting(high wind) will deflect off the top of your forehead enough to still be comfortable.
Rifle windshields in CA. will custom cut to measurements, made from the top edge of the fairing.
Trust me on this, i've got 100's of thousands of miles on FL's , and am verrry particular about windshild height.

I don't know if you have finalized you decision, but just to throw in my $.02. I bought a windcreen from Pat at alfmoon Customs, who makes custom windscreens. He makes them himself out of Lexan. I must say he is very professional. He has a web site to showcase the screens at Halfmoon Screens. They are reasonably priced too. He will do custom sizes with no problems.

Tojo,

I wish you had posted a while ago. Great prices, and I see that his are just a wee bit wider. I have a screen at the HD shop waiting for me when I get home at the end of the month/beginning of next month...

I'll keep the website, if the screen I went with is too short, he has many more options than HD.

After reading some of these post, I decided that it was time to cut down my factory windshield. I have been tired of looking through it for sometime now, but thought that I would just replace it rather than try to cut it down. Well, I came to the conclusion that if I were to replace it, im not going to use my factory one, so why not try to save some money and just cut it. I lined off the windshield, using a string from the center bottom edge of the shield to draw a clean radius with a magic marker. Next, I got out the jigsaw, and made the cut. After that I followed up with a soft disk grinder and smoothed the edge. I took out 5", and I really like it better. I get more wind buffering, but its great to see where Im going when riding into the sun, or in the rain, where before I was blind guessing, or stretching to see over the shield.

Sincecrazy,

Lookin' sweet dude.

As indicated earlier in this thread, I ordered my chopped windscreen before I left for Hawaii. I got back today and installed it. I'm keeping the stock in it's original shape, as I think it will be useful in the winter and on longer rides.

I even put on that Chrome Strip that Skip recommended... (Skip, you know I love ya! And it's just fun to poke back and forth!)

Wife and I tested it on a run to the Outback for dinner...Good to be home with the Mama!

Here's some pics...
