I have a '10 Road Glide with the stock radio and an amp. Just bought the Zumo 665, but can't quite understand how to wire in the cables and XM antenna. Can anyone who's done this walk me through it? Thanks.
Without the NIM module, all you can do is wire power & ground, so it functions, and mount and plug in the XM antenna, matching up connectors on the harness and the antenna. Adding the NIM module & wiring it up following the installation directions allows turn by turn navigation through the speakers, and hooking up the y harness with an aux cable to the auxillary port on the front of the radio lets you use the XM/MP3 features of the GPS.
Hope this helps.
Not sure about the RG but on the Ultra there is an extra set of ground and power wires at the headlight that the GPS wiring uses. Then you plug in the XM receiver into the wiring harnes for the GPS and find a good place to place it without anything metal above it. The you need a 3mm cable to go from teh GPS cable set to the AUX on the radio. Setting it up this way without the NIM you will have to be in the AUX mode to get directions from the GPS.
I have the Zumo 665 on my 2009 Ultra.
Please keep in moind that there is a difference between the ZUMO 665 and the Harley marketed version since there is a BIOS difference. The HArley Version allows the use of thier $150.00 cable assm that allows everything to play through the speaker system and with GPS interuptions regardless of what source is selected.
As for the XM hookup. It is simply a matter of mounting the big hockey puck somewhere that is not interferred with. I just put it on top of the radio since I am not using an AMP right now. All the wires I ran from left side of handlebars and ran the 3 mm jack out of right side and plugged into AUX port. Had to buy a 90 degree connector. Works great. While AUX is selected, anything that comes throught the ZUMO plays on the speakers. No need to wire it anywhere else.
Your MP3 source is nice to play thtough there as well. As for quality of MP3 music. Well that just depends on what rate you record your music to.
Also be aware that the CD player plays MP3 files as well.
