Hi I just got a 2000 harley road king. I notice that after i am done going on a ride i get about 5 drops of a brown fluid leaking on the left side by the shifter. it does not leak if the bike has not been running only after the bike has been run. It looks like it is coming the sprocket where the belt is. but i am not sure, any help with be great!
Take it to a dealership for an inspection to identify where its coming from, then take it to an Indy for the same thing. If what they tell you is the same thing then its prob what you got going on. If its a diff diagnosis, take it to one other dealership. Add that to what you come up with from member input and youll know whats happening to your scoot. .....good luck and let us know whats going on.
I am guessing the second pic is of the inner primary? If so then it appears to be an inner primary bearing seal. Seems to be a rather common leaker. It would also require the bearing race, which is installed on the transmission mainshaft, to be replaced also.
thanks for the info. is it a big deal if i do not get it fixed right away? is it a pretty costley repair? I just got the bike and i dont want to sink too much money into it in the begining. thank you guys for all your help
I was also reading on another thread that " If it's your inner primary bearing it will make noise when idling and then go away when you put it in gear". I dont hear any difference when i put it in gear or not.
If it's an inner primary seal that's leaking, that could be an indication that the bearing may be failing too, but not necessarily. If it's the tranny input shaft seal where it goes through the output shaft, then it's no biggie as long as you check your tranny lube level and the leak doesn't get any worse.

That's true. If you were in neutral with it idling and pulled the clutch & put it into 1st. a noisy inner primary bearing would stop making noise.
By the looks of the first picture it looks like your derby cover is leaking. I would check that by replacing the gasket and wipe the oil off the lower back side and give that a try before anything else!
