FLHTCU-103 2012
2500 miles.
I am hearing constant chatter in top gear. Even at 70-75 mph. Sounds like marbles in a tin can. Dealer says that 6th gear was for faster speeds, my poor riding. My 2007 FLHTCU has same (I think) tranny and I could use top gear as low as 45 without chatter.
Based on your description pinging is possibly the sound you're hearing, and I'd agree with the dealer that 45 MPH in 6th gear is not good. 75 MPH in 6th is ok on level ground, but 45MPH - no way.
I was saying that the '07 had less gear lash noise than the '12, not suggesting 40 is proper. Almost sounds like the 07 did before the "cushion pulley" upgrade.
I doubt what you are hearing is the Tranny. If it is, get the Syn3 out and put Redline V-twin w/shockproof in. You and your Tranny will love it. I'll never understand why HD put's that shitty motor oil in Transmission's, I wouldn't run it in my engine???
I just drained out lucas sythetic transmission oil and put in Valvaline syn power 75w140.It chatters no matter what speed in sixth.Lucas is going back in tomorrow.
