Warranty experiences
I'm on my third new harley and just got the 1000 mile service done on my 12 street glide. I was debating whether or not to do it myself but decided to let the dealer do it just for piece of mind if a warranty issue came up. It got me wondering though has anyone here had an issue that should be covered under warranty but was denied because they didn't get a 1,000, 5,000 etc. service done at a dealer or independent? Also has anyone had a warranty issue denied due to a stage 1 tuner?
Unless an issue was caused by abuse, neglect, or unauthorized modification, your factory warranty will cover it. The "who" involved in the work doesn't matter, as long as the materials and procedures involved met the moco's specifications. Skipping service levels alone is NOT considered neglect nor reason to deny warranty coverage. However, failure to perform required maintenance as part of those service level items can be considered neglect if problems arise as a result.
I let the dealer do the 1k and 5k on my 2011 Limited. I bought the sevice manual and did the 10K myself. I talked with the sevice guy about what I did at 10K and he logged it into my account notes. Also, FYI..If you haver the dealer do your service after the 1K, you can save money by electing to have them skip non-critical items.
