Kuryakyn makes a clear no burn unit (heat shield) that you put under your seat and it keeps you from burning both of your legs. Helps alot especially when in stop and go traffic and when getting off. Jeans are like that. I remember standing in front of a fire place with my back to it, and as soon as I walked away the back of my legs got burned from the jeans holding the heat. As soon as they hit my leg it was like I fell into the damned fire.....
Anyways check out that little unit. It's cheap and works. Good Luck,...I kind'a know what your going through. I've had 5 back surgerys and so I've been there done that..............
You can still use the SE slip-on's with the V&H True Duals. I have the True Duals on my 05, with Kerker slip-on's. They look good, and it helps with the heat problem, especially for the passenger. The air suspension idea posted earlier sounds interesting. I lowered mine the old fashioned way... with lowering springs in the front forks, and lowering shocks from HD. You can also get a seat to lower you in the saddle. That might help also. I have a Road Zeppelin on mine, and you DON'T want that.. it will raise you up about 1-1/2 inces.
I do not have that much of a problem with both feet on the ground as I do spreading those legs out to miss the pipes. I looked at the V&H website and will order the true duals. I got stuck on our LA freeway when they closed it down. Shut down the bike, but it was a little warm on the right side. I like the idea of the dual system. The bike is a 07 and was delivered with SE slip-ons A/C and factory download. Will I have to re-map the EFI when the true duals are installed?
When it's hard to even put your legs around a 2x4 you can't imagine doing it around a gas tank. The things we take for granted. The most I can spread the legs is 2.5 feet. It puts a lot of pressure on the knees and the hip joint. The doc appointment is next week to look at putting in a new right hip. Can't wait to ride with no PAIN.

We wish you well, Smitty. We've got several folks in our church who have had knees and hips replaced, and they have done very well afterwards. Hopefully you can get it done soon so you're ready for Spring and Summer riding!
Good luck with the hip replacement. Make sure you have the best Doc you can find. Check to see how long he has been doing it, and ask for references. You need someone who has been doing it for more than a couple years. The road to recovery after this is slow, and painful (at first). My mom had this done back in August. She could barely walk.. more like she hopped on her right side. She is getting around much better now.
