Makes me wonder if these main drive gear failures are in some way related to the automatic primary tensioner.
When my 07 Road Glide came out of the dealer after a stator replacement I brought it back to them the very next day because the whirring noise was really loud...they said normal even though I didnt have any primary chain noise before.
6 months later my main shaft bearing went and had to have a complete gearset replacement. All on ESP warranty. I dont have the loud whirring sound after this repair, I think they might be a little more careful on the chain adjustment.
Just an update on my tranny...bike has been in the shop over 2 weeks now waiting for parts. ESP covers all internal parts replacement of tranny, which they are doing, but not a complete tranny since the case was not damaged, hence the long delay for all of the parts. It appears there are part revisions to input shaft and main bearing, which is the reason for the delay. Tech says snap ring on input shaft bagged out and let things start sliding till the grinding commenced. This is a total bummer...
