May be buying a 2011 street glide with 6000 miles. Has not done 5000 mile service but did change oil at 3000 miles. Is the 5000 service something I can do. I've always worked on my vtx but not a hArley. I'd say I have moderate skill level.
Sounds like you probably have a good start on needed tools. As suggested, buy the HD service manual. It's around 50 bux at the dealer. Not a bad idea to get a parts manual for your bike and even an electrical diagnostic manual. Great references. You can save around 20% if you buy them from places like Lake Shore HD or some of the other discount HD parts places. Saves tax too, but there will be shipping.
You will need some SAE stuff, mainly Allen wrenches, Allen sockets, wrenches, etc. Great excuse to increase your tool inventory!! Get a good inch-pound torque wrench. I like the dial type but any good inch-pound wrench will do that is properly calibrated. Trying to use a foot-pound torque wrench for inch-pound work is a recipe for stripped hardware. Pick up a set of wobble extensions for your 3/8 and 1/4 socket set. They will make life much easier for the hard to get to fasteners.
Enjoy your bike if you decide to get it. Most anything you need to do to it can be facilitated by help you can receive from the good folks on this forum.
At the 5K mile intervals all I do is change the engine oil and oil filter and look over everything else just to see if everything is tight. If anything needs adjustment like the clutch I will have already noticed it and fixed it. Don't get carried away and try to make it rocket science or brain surgery like some on this forum.
I have had the dealer or indy do my 1,5, 7500 mile service and was considering having the dealer do the 10k but they want over 600 bucks for it. I looked at my service manual and unless im looking in wrong spot (only saw X's) none of the service intervals look difficult with exception of the 25k
According to the owners manual, the only think that needs replacing is the engine oil and filter. Everything else is inspect/lubricate/adjust if needed.
