Default Mounting a video camera

I've seen a few of the helmet, wrist, handlebar, body mounts out there. Just wondering have any of you tried different mounts and how they worked for you.

The reason I'm asking is my wife's health is no longer what it used to be and she can no longer do the long trips. She misses riding along very much and I thought if I could just shoot videos of riding through some of the terrific scenery it would help. I know it doesn't replace the ride but it's better than nothing.

I use ram mounts for a GoPro. Have several of the ball mounts mounted on the bike and depending on the ride type is where the camera is mounted.

Just got back from a 2200 mile trip and the video is amazing.

I used GPS city but they are available all over.

Have Fun....the video opens a whole new world

The RAM mount is the way to go. I have them on both sides of the handlebars. They are very versatile.

I just got a GoPro Hero2 for my trip in three days. I have a long arm for the camera, short arms for my GPS & drink holder. I have a midsize arm incase I want something different.

So very sorry to hear this. It's awfully nice of you to consider doing this.

My wife and I ride together more than I ride alone. I'm typically alone during the day running errands, but when she isn't working she even asks when we're going out again.

Consider this ... Raw footage is OK to watch but it takes time and some production understanding to make raw footage into enjoyable movies. Just buying a camera and mounting it doesn't always get you the aspect of the ride you want to preserve and share.

Let me suggest you and her make an adventure out of watching travel videos that are already out there, many, of areas you may not have seen, and often some real professional looking "movies". With the advantages of today's modern computer's and software the average videographer can put together some very decent movies.

I'd suggest you and her relax in your entertainment room and watch the hundreds of videos right here on this site of some of the most sensational riding areas in the world. Many have already "produced" some unbelievable videos and posted them here. You can also look at You Tube. You'll get to know the riders who puts together excellent videos of exciting places, just like watching everything Spielberg does.

A couple of pointers for watching too: Having the subwoofer turned up gives you the chance to feel the ride, the vibration and rumble of the bike comes through nicely. And be certain to adjust the settings to see the presentations in High Def (HD). The clarity becomes life like.

I did a small experiment using a hand held standard mini Cannon video camera. You can read about it here:

She likes her home movies. She's not much of a movie watcher but she'll sit for hours watching the home versions. Call us old fashioned! Thanks for the suggestion.

I checked out the RAM mounts. That looks like the way to go with the GoPro Hero2. Thanks.

I wish I would have had one yesterday for the ride home, another biker was performing a perfectly legal pass, when he approched a cage, the douche waffle swerved into the passing lane and was perventing the motorcycle to pass, then got right on the motorcycles *** at 60+ MPH. When coming up to the stop light and traffic was stopped and I was making a right turn, when driving past the truck he flipped me off and then swerved towards me. I should have called the cops on his *** but I was so steamed.

Here is a perfect reason to always have a "dash cam". But odds are the issue could be off to the side or the back where the camera isn't pointing. Guess you'd need the "satellite view" to capture it all.

Another thought would be the system that gives you a 360 degree view. You'd run it off from a pole mounted on back, like some police bikes have to put their red light up in the air to be seen. I think they use this for Google street level.

Sorry got off topic a bit.

That's a pretty thoughtful idea my friend. : ) I like the GoPro stuff, just because there's soo much stuff for it out right now
