Default Road King Sissy Bar

HI All, New to the forums and have a question. I just bought a new 2012 Road King with factory seat and bought the factory docking kit for the sissy bar and luggage rack. Problem is, I need to get the sissy bar further back to get more room for my rider. Dealer says can't do it. Can anyone suggest possibly an aftermarket item that will fit and do what I need?

Thanks!!

i dont think you can do it either because the bar hooks to the shock.... Beware if you have soft bags (not sure about the hard) The docking hardware will hit the top of the bag and create a circle imprint

A detachable tour pak is actually more adjustable. Of course with the right, expensive aftermarket parts.

HD makes a kit to address that by stopping the lit from opening that far - it's a modification to the lid hinge - why they don't just build the leather bags that way to begin with....I've wondered that myself.

Might be easier to modify the rider.

If you're REALLY needing to get the passenger backrest set further back, you might want to think about modifying the stock backrest, or having a talented fabricator make a new bracket that moves the pad back more. I used to own a really cool (but oddball) bike that I had to make/modify accessories to fit. It was a challenge, but it can be done.

It would probably be simpler and less costly to take the bar to a metal frabication and have it cut, extended the distance back you need, rewelded, ground, polished and re-chrome plated.

or

Take your sissy bar to the metal fabricator and tell them you want the same thing only (?) inches further back then have it painted/chromed.

Trying to screw with the mounts will likely end up being ugly and costing just as much but limiting and functionality down the road for other stuff.

or and I am not recommending this, get a smaller riding partner or join weight watchers.

Mine is a 2011 RKC. About a year ago I had a welder cut the sissy bar, add a piece of bar to each side and then weld it back together. It works perfect and made a big difference. It cost about a hundred for the modification and is worth every penny. Cost to either powder coat or rechrome is extra.

You could also change the amount of padding on the back rest to a minimum but it might only buy you an inch.
