Default fl-xieds

2012 RGU, S & S duals, Vance & Hines mufflers. Just installed the FL-xieds. What settings are you running for best results?

Steve recommends 25%. Here's what he says:

The FL-VIED-10 will handle your planned upgrades. You will have to alter the settings for removal of the converter. Generally the VIED's want settings around the 25% rich area once the converter is removed. This is actually to compensate for reversion bringing fresh air to the sensors (which is seen as a lean mixture and actually adds some fuel), so the VIED needs to be 'turned down' some to compensate. The net effect is you are still running (and adjusting) to get the ECM to run in closed loop at 14.0:1, but you have to back off on the VIED settings to stabilize the voltage readings with the lower settings because of the fresh air that can get to the O2 sensors with the conveter removed.

I'm running Vance & hines true duals with rush slipons and have the FL Vied and have tried all settings from 25 up to 75. So far mine runs the best with less popping at low speeds set on the 75. I tried the 25 and my exhaust would pop real bad until I moved them up to the 75 and that cleared most of my exhaust popping.

Installed them last night. Started at 50% worked my way up to 75%. The 75% seemed to work the best for me.

Took a 200 mile trip today. 47 mpg riding 2 up. Engine did seem to be cooler. Some of the pinging is gone but not all. 91 octane is the best gas around here. Might try some lucas octane booster designed for motorcycles.

Talked with dealership today and was advised that Harley is coming out with a new download in about 2-3 months regarding the pinging issues.

The pinging seems to be a big complaint with the 103 motors.

Its a big complaints for any size big twin. I was running VIEDs successfully until a ping began at the mid RPM range and when hard acceleration occurs. I had to go to a PCV which allows me to retard the timing in the RPM ranges I was getting the ping. Mine wasnt a severe ping but it was there and a -1 to -2 is all it took to eliminate the ping. Im wagering the MoCo download is going to do the exact thing. Im not bagging on Xieds but if you want the pinging gone youll need to retard the timing and you need to be able to get into the tables to do so......
