Has anyone ever installed forward controls on the Ultra?
Have steal rods in both legs and have to have forward controls for comfort.
Have tried it with the highway pegs, but still uncomfortable as for as shifting and braking.
Dealer says only on the Softail, Dyna etc. but not on the touring models.
Currently have a Wide Glide but wanting to move up to the Ultra if I can figure out away to install the forward controls, I have no problem loosing the lower fairings as I can see where they might be in the way.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
BigKid
I can't give you the exact how to do it but I did see a bagger with forward controls not long ago and also saw one in a mag awhile back. I'm sure with some fabrication it would be possible. There are alot of folks here on the board that could jump in, some here has to have done it.
J&P catalog has forwards for baggers. If I remember I believe accutronix make them. Anyway look in the J&P catalog. I made mine on my King by taking off the front crash bars and floor boards. Use 4 inch spacers for mounting your choice of foot pegs in the front floorboard holes. There are 3 holes (1/2") in the front you can use any one for three different heights. The 4 inch spacers can be bought from Kuryakin or other after market manufactures. Harley dealers should have a catalog for Kuryakin. You can adjust your stock shifter pegs a little lower to shift without taking your foot off the peg, and put one peg on backwards andunscrew the rubber toe part and put it on backwards. On the brake side if you leave the stock brake pedal on it works great, but you'll have to lift your foot for braking like you do now with the floors on. I made my own brake pedal so I can keep my foot on the peg. Hope this helps.
I've got the extended reach brake levers on my ultra, and am going to be putting probably the kuryakyn extended shift levers on eventually. Man what a difference. Pricey but if you are going to have your bike for any length of time... totally worth it.
The EZ brake and shift do make the Elevtraglides SOOO much mor comfortable for 6foot guys, but they are not forward controls. But if your going to take thelowers off, then you could get one of the EZ brake levers and have it extended about 2", and that would get the brake lever out arround the front frame downtube. It should work just as good and would still work with the stock floorboards.
