I have to cast my vote for the Cobra FI2000 Powerpro. This tuner is simple to install, and on my bike at least, has worked great. Yeah it's a bit pricy compared to XIEDs or a Fuelpak, but it has handled my stage 1 mods with no need for dyno tunes. It works at least as well as the SERT I had on my last bike, for sure. If you just want to ride I recommend it, if you want to tune then maybe it's not for you. Good luck!

SEPST; the latest version (part # 32109-08C) has a smart tune feature and can be purchased on ebay for just over $300.

I have the SERT. I'm happy right now. Have the stage 1 with V&H big radius pipes. Pulls strong thru the rpm range. When I do cams and heads I'm thinking about the Thundermax. Maybe.

It doesn't do more, more specificly it does things different and actually does less.
The Tmax is a full Alpha N system, Uses RPM and TPS to determine fuel needs and ignition needs. Great for drag racing and ok for street. It also doesn't have a knock sensor or use ION sensing to prevent pre-ignition or ping. Also does not monitor/test electrical components as in depth as the OE ECM, example doesn't monitor Injector open/closed status. It does use wideband O2 sensors so will be closed loop through the whole map if desired. Will also handle radical cams better then a MAP based fuel map.
The TTS keeps all the OE trouble shooting and allows full tuning of fuel and ignition maps. Is MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) based fuel and ignition mapping. Utilizes narrow band O2 sensors which read in a limited 14:1-15:1 range.

Now I am not saying one is better then the other, they do things different. But to answer your question does the average Joe need a Tmax over a TTS, the answer is no. And for mild builds (most anything streetable) I would choose the TTS over the Tmax. If the Tmax used MAP based ignition it would be a much better product in my opinion.

I used the SERT on my Wide Glide and now use the SEPST on my Ultra. I like the SEPST better as you can do "Smart Tunes" in actual riding conditions. I do not like the piggy back systems. Have read where people have had issues with them dying.

No need to buy a new tuner when you make changes to your engine with the SE tuner; it'll tune everything from mild to wild.
