Use Formula+ in the primary and tranny. Thousands of bikes have been using it for millions of miles
I agree with Formula+ in the Primary, but not in the tranny.
For that hole I run a good quality GL-5 spec gear oil 75-90 winter and 85-140 summer. Wahtever decent quality is on sale, that is.....
The good thing is we can all use whatever we want or think is the best!
Jaysus, Joseph, and Mother Mary - stop with the "my stuff is best" BS. The man asked about Schaeffer's - not about what you personally prefer in your primary and trans.
OP: Got a bud that absolutely positively claims his bike picked up 5 mpg with that Schaeffer's stuff. I don't buy it (or the oil). Draw your own conclusions about any of those friction tests - they all look like BS to me.
Thanks Leftcoaster, Although I do like others opinions on what they run and what they think is good. Some I listen to, Some I dont.
Anyway, last night I picked up 6qts of 20/50 Syn racing Schaeffer's designed for Harley-Davidson specs. Has it right on the bottle. I will be running that in the engine and primary. And some Schaeffer's syn plus 80-90, or 75-90 (don't remember for sure) in the trans. Thats what my Schaeffer's dealer recommended and sells to local bike shops including Harley dealer. Said all the Harley techs suggest the 20-50 in the engine and primary.
I buy alot of Schaeffer's oil from him for my customers for their diesels. I guess you could say Im a distributor?? LOL
Well since I have almost 5000 miles on my last oil change, I made the run to my Sheaffer dealer buddy today. Picked up a case of 20/50 for the motor and a couple quarts of 75/90 synthetic for the trans. Then swung by a place near by and picked up a couple quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic atf for the primary.
I should be good for another 10,000 miles now for sure.
As far as the Harley speced Sheaffers, I hope you did not pay extra for it. It is the same exact oil as the stuff that doesn't say anything about Harley or V twins on it.
This comes right from the sheaffers factory, Same oil just packaged to say it is certified for HD use but the price is the same as the regular bottled stuff.
I never tried the sheaffers gear oil in the trans but I figured I would give it a try since no one carries Redline or royal purple around here anymore. Trying to remember but I think the trans takes about 1/2 a quart or just a tad more. If so then I should be good for atleast three trans changes.

I just picked up 2 cases of the V-Twin 707, 20-50 Racing Oil for $6.15 a quart. I picked it up from the distributor so there was no shipping Hopefully my bikes will love the new koolaid. I've always used Mobil 1 V-Twin but I loved the price on the Schaeffers. From what I've read I won't use it in the primary due to the moly additive.

You can probably buy it on amazon, that's where I looked when trying to find the Brad Penn oil.
