I have a 2011 RKC with 3500mi. Went on a 150 mile ride today and just as I was making the last turn onto my street, I got a sound that seemed like it was coming from the front fender area and sounded like someone shaking a can of marbles. Pulled over checked for gravel in the tires. Nothing.
Sound continued for a little while then stopped by the time i hit my driveway. Was too dark to really check anything.
Bike ran fine all day except I thought I heard some extra noise when up shifting from 1st thru 3rd. Bike already has SE compensator.
Any ideas?
Do a search on pinging and get all the info you can then come up with solutions.....theres a lot of talk about this problem and ignoring it will not make it go away.
Don't think that's what it was. Have heard pinging before, but then again, it's possible cause I filled up at a gas station I never used before. Have to check it out today. Sounded like it was coming more from the wheel or front of the primary area and coasting with the motor idling.
Have you looked at your front wheel bearings to see if the sound is comming from there. There is a dust cover that can be pulled back to see the bearings. What is the condition of the bearings and are their any missing.
I had the same thing before I changed out my AC and added the SEPST. Never heard pinging like that before. But mine started while I was in traffic on a hot day. The marbles would go away as soon as I pulled in the clutch.

Thats how mine started out sounding and as it progressed it became more apparent I was having a pinging issue that was slowly getting worse. Some bikes start out with a ping right from the purchase, with others starting in the 5k range with it being fully active by the 6k range. Retarding the timing slightly in the RPM range seems to be helping.
