Helmets are a must wear in my area, shorts on the other hand are optional!....I rode with shorts on 1 time, levi's mid length and still some way, some how a fricking yellow jacket flew up the leg of my shorts with me running 70 mph down the highway, let me tell you how well my brakes work!....I musta looked like the village idiot doing a happy dance on the side of the road trying to get that fricking bee outta my shorts!....So now I wear boots and jeans!......Wear what ever you want to though, it was none of the other guys business anyhow!....Just thought I would share a funny story!....LOL
OMG, that's funny and should stop anyone from wearing shorts on a bike !!
We do a lot of group & charity rides and often see the bar-hoppers and their chics who aren't used to 100+mile rides. The girls show up in short shorts, 99cent plastic flip flops, thin strap tank tops showing their lilly white shoulders. Halfway thru the ride, they are rosy red from the sun, complaining about everything and drunk cause they insist on pounding beers at each stop to show they are "bikers".
We always wear long jeans and leather above ankle boots. I've bugs and rocks hit my legs and sometimes they fly around DH and get me. Helmets only when we have to by law or if very cold.
Everybody do what they want, we're all adults. I always wear a helmet (half when warm, full when cold). I tried shorts once and burned the **** out of my leg on the exhaust. Won't do that again. Try to wear a jacket if not too hot.
