Default Harley Stock Seats !@#@!

I finally got to put a few miles on my new King today and sure enough... The seat is really bad. I couldnt use the stock seat on my both sportsters, my wide glide, and now my Road King.

Do they purposely make them uncomfortable so you have to buy a seat?

Its almost like the upholstery is so tight, I feel like I am on a sling. It makes me slide forward. I hope this thing stretches out a bit. I feel like I am on top of the bike instead of inside the bike if that makes sense.

My wide glide was way more comfortable.

Suggestions?

I guess on one hand it is a tall order to design a seat that fits everyone, as we come in different shapes and sizes, but at least the MoCo offers some alternatives and the aftermarket industry has certainly made a living on this deficiency. I hear ya though, perhaps they need to change out their seat TEST Models ? And of course the older you get the more you can appreciate a comfortable saddle. Got a corbin on my FXR which is firm but good for a long day, the new Ltd is way too wide and pushes you forward, so I will either have it modified or swapped out. Saw a dealer with a DEMO rack of seats the other day in Belgium, so might try that option. Good luck with your ride.

Mean City Cycles.

I liked how my OEM RKC looked, but hated how it fit. Now I like how it looks AND how it fits.

I think you are right about the seat, they put crap on, so you will buy a new one!
You would think for what they price these bikes at, at least the damn seat would
be comfortable.
I went with a Corbin Solo made with softer foam then they normally use.
It felt broken in right out of the box, pricey, but very comfortable.
There are many others out there for less money.

What blarg says. I did the same thing for the same reasons and am extremely happy.

Mine sucked too. Seemed like I was constantly trying to adjust, move or whatever to make it feel better. I installed the adjustable backrest from HD and it helped some. Finally, I did a google search about seat modification and here is what I did. I took the staples out and removed the cover. On mine, I found it had a double layer of foam. I took the top layer out, replaced the cover and I have to say, for me it was better. Made me just a little lower, maybe a half inch or so, and allowed me to sit back farther, again, maybe an inch. Now, after riding a while will it work out, I have no idea. But I took a shot, figured it was worth a chance.

I'm actually very happy with the seat on my 2012 RKC but have to say it's the first Harley stock seat that I have been happy with. Went through 5 or 6 seats on my Sportster and 3 or 4 on my Heritage. Seems like seats are very subjective to the user/sitter. Just took a 9 day 10 state trip with the stock seat and didn't have an issue with it. Long day was 670 miles.

i got 6200 miles on my OEM seat. I suppose having gel and mem foam added by a seat re-builder would make it better.

HD Sundowner.
Go to your dealer.
They have ones that you can try now, or at least mine does.
I haven't seen anything beat a Sundowner for the price, and I did the seat mod thing too.
For the price that will cost you, you can find "every now and then" a used Sundowner on this site in the classifieds. 08 and up will fit yours.
