Which do you guys prefer????? I live in the Washington DC area. I-95, I-295, I-395, I-66 are brutal. Even in a car. BUT, I like to take the quickest route to get mefrom point A to point B. Unless, I'm just out riding to be riding.
Back roads usually cost me (at least)an additional 30-50 mins to a trip. If I have 100-300 hundred miles to travel, the interstate is my only option. I like to get it over with. A riding buddy of mine never rides with me on long trips becasue he hates the busy interstates.
It depends on what I am doing. Do I need to get to Sturgis from Louisiana? Interstate til I get there or pretty close. If I am going on a 100mi local ride or riding over to say Auntie Skinners in Jefferson, TX. and back which is almost an all day trip I (We) take the back roads.
I live just a ways down I-95 from ya. The traffic is pretty heavy as well as non-attentive for the most part. Gotta keep the head on a swivel to keep from getting hit. West of Richmond the traffic seems to thin out quite a bit and I-81 south of Winchester seems ok for the most part. As far as getting where ya need to go, the interstate does get ya there pretty quick, but for just out ridin, the state and county roads are just fine.
I prefer the abandoned back roads with a slow easy feel to them. If I have to be somewhere at a certain time, though, I will ride the fourlane. Just isn't as much fun is all.
It depends on the ride for me too. If on a trip, Interstate for most of it due to time. But back roads for a weekend ride. My neighbor knows VA really good and always takes some really nice 3 hour ride routes. Most of the time never exceeding 45 mph due to hills, curves etc.... VA is a beutiful country. Just get away from DC.
I like both but feel saferon the superslabs! It seems that I'm more in control and there'sless chance of someone pulling out in front of you.
Me, too. IMO, the interstate is safer. Nobody is gonna cross a double yellow line or make a left turn in front of you. Animals smaller than deer are less likely to be there because most of them are fenced...I've hit two dogs and one deer on a bike. I don't care to hit anymore.
