Back Roads vs. Interstate Riding

Living in downtown Chicago, I take the slab to get to the backroads. Otherwise, I'm just riding stop light to stop light-and that is brutal in it own right. The traffic, though, is horrendous and is life threatening at best. I say, take the fastest route out and then ENJOY!

My daily commute for work is135 miles round trip, so the Interstate is definitely necessary cuz the back roads add at least half an hour to the time. If just on a leisurely ride I love the back roads, but they're impractical for efficient commuting when it's at least one hour on the freeway even with no traffic problems, lol.

I never take the interstate if there is a back road available. I just make sure I leave early enough that I don't have to get where I'm going that quick! Of course, I'm retired so I don't have a work commute to deal with either.
