My bike is vivid black. PITA to keep clean. I wash and wax maybe twice a season. I use Maguiar's Quick Detailer and a micro fibre cloth. Looks pretty clean after a quick wipe down. Stuff gets expensive though!
Mine only gets real clean when I get a new tire or some other work done at the dealer. Looks real nice when they're finished. I just don't have the patience to do more than spary some polish on the saddlebags.
After EVERY ride I hit it with a California Duster and then use Cycle Care Formula 22 detail spray and a clean detail cloth. If it collects any dust prior to the next ride I do the same, but it is usually much faster.
For all you guys with your "Don't let it get dirty" philosophy, and keep it clean and maintain...
What do you do for overnighters?
I just rode 2400 miles in 4 days, and have a nice buggy film over every part of the bike.
I pack the mini cali-duster, detail spray and micro fibre towels in my bike for the trip. You gotta keep your bike looking sharp, even on the road. I have done an 2800 mile trip and at the end of each day I cleaned my bike. I'd hate to think of what it would have looked like if I did the whole trip and brought it home without cleaning. Ick, no thanks.
Power washer gets water where you don't want it.
Leaf blower blows **** onto the bike you don't want on it.
Really don't wash mine. Whenever I have time to wash I'd rather be riding.
I did buy some special new Mequiers waterless wash in a spray bottle. Much like a detailer but meant for more serious dirt/grime. Figured on a rainy day or at night I could hangout in the garage and clean it. That way I don't lose riding time. Maybe even a few beers, some fine bourbon and a cigar. I've only done it once so far. Concerned about scratching but the first time left no scratches. Once I get to the point I totally trust it it'll be great. Clean bike, no swirls, no water spots, and no lost ride time.
I sit in the garage with a glass of Captain Morgan and Diet coke in my left hand and a cigar in my right hand. My Greyhound lays at my feet on one of his many beds. We watch the wife as she washes, dries, and waxes all three of the bikes. I am kinda lucky, my wife hates dirty bikes. Sometimes when she's done with the bikes, she cleans up the cars too. That gives me time for another Captain and coke and another cigar.
Rough life you have there my friend! I'm envious!
I personally have a clear acrylic climate controlled clean parking chamber. I just sit and look at the bike every weekend with a projected moving background behind it. : ) Just kidding. I couldn't resist.
