Default Street Glide - rear shock load adjustment

I am used to adjusting for my load with a spanner wrench, and 5 clicks - my old Street Bob.

I am getting my new SG ready for a long trip - and the guy who owned it last weighed 160 pounds soaking wet. I weigh 210 and expect about 50 pounds in baggage.

Going to take my air machine and air gauge out tomorrow morning and adjust the air shocks to around 15 psi.

Is there anything I should be mindful of or take special care while performing this adjustment? Yup....seems simple, but first times can also suck in teaching lessons. This why I love the forums

any helpful hints would be appreciated...

Happy 4th to all!!

What do you mean by air machine. If you ar saying you are bringing out a compressor, don't do it. You need a special pump. I bought mine on amazon fo like $35, but the Harley version can be had fo $50. I tried a bike pump, but that didn't work. Need the little one.

It will be a bit of trial and error, until you get a comfortable setting. I do notice that the higher the pressure the worse the rebound is on bad roads. It can lift the whole bike rear up sometimes.

When you say "air machine" I sure hope it is NOT an air compressor. You do not want to use an air compressor unless you adjust the output of the pressure down to like 2 psi. If you use a standard air compressor you WILL blow your lines off then you will not be riding.....

You need to use a hand pump designed for low pressure output.

as in the syringe like air shock pump- we are all in agreement here.

even a full stroke with a bicycle pump might over pressure the system, if lucky the air lines blow off- otherwise the shock blows the seals and you are SOL

+1 with all posting regarding use of low pressure air pump. I use the H-D hand pump and usually has mine set at 15 psi; 35 when with passenger and load. Takes some getting use to which air pressure works best for rider, riding style, road conditions and carry load. BTW, I have an FLHR but switched to the H-D Low Profile air shocks which is similar to the stock RG/SG air shocks.

On the 2008 and older 15 lbs should be close.
On my '08 I ran between 10 & 15 lbs. I'm 220 and ride solo.

2009 and newer are different shocks and would need more air.
So be careful who you take advice from. No air compressors please.

Get a manual as it gives you ball park pressure for weights, realize the shocks suck so you're managing your expectations accordingly and stop using terms like "air machine". Where did that term come from anyway?

Start with 15 and have at it. Bring the little specialized HD pump with you and test out different pressures along the way.

Enjoy the trip and be safe.

If you got any friends with tour bikes they'll have a pump till you get yours
Or stop by the dealer, if they are worth a **** they'll air it up for ya.
I can't help ya with the air adjustment I'm 180, but the maunal for your weights says your going to want 30-40lbs.
The guy who sold it should had zero to 10lbs in it

If you put a regular tire guage on it you now have zero.

Default air station

I have a small, portable all-in-one Black & Decker "air station"

small orange machine that fills soccer *****, tires, etc. 12 volts.

You set the desired psi, turn it on, and it stops when that pressure is reached.

Will this work? Or should I get the hand pump from HD? Does the hand pump from HD come with EVERYTHING a person needs to air them up? Like not another 20 bucks for an adapter or anything....right?
