Just finished the Blue Ridge Parkway and going to stay in DC for a couple of days............been riding almost all back contry 2 laners on this trip, but looks like very little "country" fron DC to NY.
No hurry.............long way arround is great.
All the routes I have gotten from this site have been great.....
In downtown DC keep alert lots of road work in an around and lots of steel plates,, real slick. 14th and constitution is a slippery area... Road over it yesterday on my way home and kid of like riding on ice for a second. Lots of roads are closed in the downtown area due to the fireworks tonight.
When you get to New York come out on Long Island. Take a cruise on the Ocean Parkway. Get to it by taking Meadowbrook Parkway to its southern end then cruise east on Ocean Parkway. It is exactly what its name implies. A parkway that runs along the Atlantic Ocean with Beaches and restaurants and watering holes. Stop at Cedar Beach Fri Sat eves live music food motorcycles, Seafood Shack more food, bikes, Oak Beach Parking lot weekend mornings lots of MCs, same with Captree Boat Basin. Go over the Robert Moses bridge to Fire Island for some more views. Park in Robert Moses State Park Field 5 and walk east to Kismet Beach for some fun at night.
ps Be mindful of Deer crossing the road on Fire Island
