This is why I love HD Forums! I had this issue and came across this thread and it worked PERFECTLY! It evaporates...no water spots. Lights look brand new!
As those have said remove and don't use harmful chemicals; Then put a small amount of crushed ICE in there with a small amount of windex or soapy water etc. Shake around until you are satisfied you have it clean.
Pour out ice and let liquid drain for a while.
If moisture still in lamp. Cut narrow strips of chamois and put in there and shake it around until all moisture is picked up. Oh yea, I forgot to add, remove chamois strips.
If need to redo the whole process till it suits you.
Good Luck,
Jim
Tried the alcohol today. Worked well but it's taking forever to evaporate. I helped it along a bit with a rolled up paper towel and spun it around in there. Seems to have done the trick and the glass on my passing lamps is clear again. Great tip.
Fill 1/4 way with crushed ice, add alcohol. Swish around for a few minutes. Dump out ice/alcohol. Refill with alcohol to remove remaining moisture, pour out let dry. Someone showed me that using ice to clean a container than you cannot get you hands into works. He showed me this on a commercial glass coffee canister that I was trying to clean, he said this is how they cleaned them at their family's restrauant. Works
Forget the water.... add rum.... don't dump out but drink instead. repeat until you do just don't care anymore!
Cheers!
Never tried to use ice this way....... I'll keep it in the back of my mind. Thanks for the intresting tip......
I have seen discussions about this. I need to do this myself. The simplest thing to try was removing the light and putting a small amount of rubbing alcohol in there. Then swish it around to clean the lens. Pour out and repeat till its clean. I hear there is no residue? And the light will be clean. The rubbing alcohol will evaporate leaving the inside of the dry as an be.
Seems simple...... I hope it works.......
It does work, I have had the same problem. I used alcohol alone ,no paper towels etc. Just be careful and not touch the bulbs. There will not be a residue on the lenses.
I did mine and used regular automotive windshield washer fluid. Swished it around, dumped it out, rinsed with water and blew them dry with compressed air. Worked great, nice clean lenses and reflectors.
