Default stator rotor charging issue?

I have an 05 ultra. its not charging like it should I replaced the voltage regulator. No change. I put my leads on the battery terminals from my multi meter and started the bike and reved it up only gaining .1-.3 volts. I checked the stator at the plug for grounding nothing there I hooked both leads from my multi meter to the stator plug and started it. it was producing amperage but when I reved it up to 4k or so the meter read 0.00 and no amperage was coming out I let it idle down and still nothing I shut the bike off and tried it again ampreage till about 4k rpms then nothing. Any I deas?

Did your 05 come with the 38 amp system or the 45 amp system? If not 45, might be a good time to upgrade it to that anyway.

do you have the manual or the proper diagnostics for the charging system ?

you should be looking for volts not current at the stator plug.

do the correct tests, then if it is duff- the 45 amp is a great idea.

Also I guess my question is do you think the stator is junk? or should I change stator and rotor?

When you tested the stator plug to ground, did you have continuity? A good stator shows no continuity. Anything else and it's junk. Also test for resistance across all three pins of the plug. You should show .1 to .2 ohms. If its higher, its junk.

I believe your 05 has the 45 amp system already. You probably won't have 3 pins on the plug either as that is only on the 3 phase systems from 06 and up.

Figured it out. peeled the outer primary off this morning. Droped a magnet off the rotor and broke a few more. banged up the stator pretty good aswell.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a new stator/rotor from these guys:

http://www.cycleelectricinc.com/

That's based on Dawg's recommendation and the alternator kits come with stator, regulator and rotor. They are made in the USA as well. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I got mine from JP Cycles, but Drag Specialties sells them too. JP Cycles was about $500 I think. No clue what the dealer wants for the whole set up.
