Default Is Dyno Necessary?

I have a 2011 RGU that I am thinking of doing a stage 1 on. I am considering getting the following from FuelMoto: PowerVision, V&H PowerDuals, Rinehart 4" slip-ons, FuelMoto Pro Billet air cleaner. I'm new to this so please forgive my ignorance. I was under the impression that a Dyno is not necessary since FuelMoto will be providing a map for my bike and this set-up. Is this correct or not? Is a dyno needed in this case?

Thanks

A dyno tune will provide the best tune setting for "your" bike given that it is done by a thouroughly competant tuner.
I would avoid a dealer dyno tune like the plague unless of course you don't mind paying by the hour and don't expect best results.

it's not nessesary but a dyno will get your bike to run as perfect as it is possible (that is, if the right guy tunes it) A preset map will get it close....

Personally I would recommend the dyno work. I have used Fuel Moto provided parts and it's fine but a dyno tune gets the best from YOUR bike. Every bike is a bit different so there is no perfect map without putting the actual bike on a dyno. When I put my RKC on a dyno after doing a pipe, filter, cam, PC V from Fuel Moto I gained 5 peak hp and 3 lbs peak torque over the Fuel Moto map but more importantly I got 5 hp through 90% of the range and low down I gained about 17 lbs torque.

Just seems sensible to maximise your own gain. And this is no criticism of Fuel Moto either - I went back and got their 107" kit the next year (and got my own dyno work on that too).

The selection of a Power Vision from Fuel Moto is a good one. If you have a skilled Tuner available a custom tune will almost always provide a little more performance than a canned MAP . But if the skill is not there a lot of times there is no performance gain only more $.

Ive used Jamie MAPs on 3 bikes with the PCIII, PCV and now the Power Vision. On my Fatboy I had a dyno tune using the SERT and then later when the ECM went out I changed to a PC III and one of Jamies MAPs to save the $ for another tune and overall my bike ran better than with the SERT and tune.

One of the great things about the Power Vision is that you can data log and custom tune your bike as you go. Im running a Power Vision and one of Jamies MAPs on my RG and it ran great but i wanted to see if there was any more improvement available without going to a dyno so I ran 3 data logs on the Power Vision and then Jamie dialed in the MAP a little closer. Overall my bike runs great and I dont expect to put it on the dyno.

I'm a recent convert to dyno tuning. You could try riding your bike for a short while before getting it dynoed, then see the difference. I suspect you will be blown away afterwards, just as I was.

Everyone has their own opinion and will try to sway someone their way. Personally, I have a canned map by Fuel Moto on a simple stage 1 and I couldn't be happier. Bike runs way better than new off the floor, does not demonstrate anything that leads me to believe the tune isn't good, and lastly.....I'm not for paying to have my bike beat to snot on a Dyno.....I've heard those that say a competent tuner won't hurt the bike. Still, I've seen dyno tunes and the RPMs those bikes are run up to are not my cup of tea on a stock bike. If my bike were hopped up and set up for big numbers, I'd say sure. No need on a stock bike with good folks like Fuel Moto around and or a power vision tuner and those like it. Those crying about getting a bad canned map or having popping etc in most cases have something else not right. For example they changed their own exhaust and have a leak . My .02.

I'm a noob at dyno as well. What can someone expect (ballpark figure) to spend on just the dyno?

300 bucks is the average. The most important thing is to find the right guy to tune it or it could be a waste of money. There is a post on here.....5 things to ask your tuner. Search it and read it and ask the questions first...
