avon tire issues
anyone else have this happen... i have a avon 120-70-21.. frt tire... less than 2 yrs I checked the date code.. its the cobra.. it might have 6K miles on it..maybe.... i keep a regular check on air pressure..before every ride.. found this the other day.. the rear has already picked up a nail..installed a tire plug..so i ordered a set of metzlers..I have heard of avons spliting like this..but hoped mine never would.. keep a eye out if you have a set.. even the tread groves was spliting..
I have a 200mm on the rear..going a metzler there to.. just a shame a tire half worn out ruined

well got the metzlers on now...havent rode it yet.i had to get 3 tires installed on 2 different bikes..so in the trailer thay went.... my HD dealer was going to up charge the metzler tires 130 bucks per tire..just for them to order them...I ordered them online.. free shipping.... I orderd 4 tires... 2 for the SG... 2 for the softail... only needed 1 on the softail for now... the dealers just want to over charge for everything..
... thay already get 82.00 a hrs.. 3 hrs for 3 tires installed.. the metzles have done well on my softail... I did notice the rear tire on my SG say made in germany...the frt says made in brazil....hmmmm.

I had similar problems too. Avon Venoms on my softail started splitting and cracking after 1 year. Won't be buying Avons anymore. Replaced the with Duro tires which turned out to be excellent. Was about 80 bucks for both front and back. Hell of a lot cheaper than Avons.

Same thing happend to my Avon Cobras on my last bike. Mine looked worse though.
I went to Metzler 880 Marathon and liked them a whole lot better anyway. The Metz were a lot better rain/wet pavement tire too.

Thanks for the heads up. BTW, I've been riding on Avon Venoms for years and have never had a problem.

I ran Avon venoms on my 90 flh and lived them, no issues. I now have a metzler me880 marathon on my softail and seems good too. Slides a lute easier in the rain but this bike is putting down way more power too.
