Default '12 SG Scraping Kickstand / JiffyStand - should I trim or bend the tab?

Hello All,

I have a 12 street glide and I weight about 145lb w/o gear so I don't think i weight the bike down much. I run between 10-15psi in rear to get myself a firm ride and works for me when 2 up.

Riding 1 up I scrap the left jiffystand tab almost at will. I have to admit it makes me nervous when doing tight lefts or u-turns as I'm afraid if after it scrapes and I lean more it would effect the turn...I have yet to scrape either of my floorboards.

Question is: Should I ignore and I can lean more on the left side until the floorboards scrap? Does the jiffystand bend in or have give? Or should I cut the tab down 1/2" or bend it?

Thanks!

Danny

Have you made sure the kickstand is coming all the way up??? I know I would drag the one on my 07 SG occasionally, but it would be in a decent lean turning up hill out of my driveway usually (but not always).... I haven't gotten my 12 RGC to drag anything yet.......

I do know that when that left floorboard starts dragging... don't lean any farther!!!.. the next closest thing to the road is the primary... it gets REAL "not pretty" when that hits when you're in a tight curve .... ha!! don't ask me how I know.....

You might check your Jiffystand spring. The Jiffystand should be pulled up snug against the frame so the rubber bumper is against it. If not, replace your spring.

Take it back to the dealer you bought it from. That is a safety issue in my mind and you have a 2012...

Is your riding position correct? You maybe sitting straight up instead of leaning with the bike. Not leaning correctly will cause the bike to lean over further than needed, thus causing you to scrape.
I watched my son in law do it on my fatboy.

You should scrape the floorboard before the jiffy stand on level ground. Either you aren't on level ground when this happens or there is something wrong with the jiffy stand. There is one up hill turn in my neighborhood that slants slightly to down to the right where I consistantly scrape my jiffy stand. But it's usually the floorboard on level ground.

I would probably pump up the rear shocks also. I'm running 40psi.

If you have checked that the stand is coming all the way up and there is no other reason the stand should be dragging? I would do what I do on all my bikes. If I have a part that scrapes other than the frame or case gards, I just keep scraping till they are filed down to my liking.
No need to go cutting or grinding, just ride it like you stole it and eventually the stand will be ground to where you want it.

Not on my Road King. The mounting position of the foot board may have something to do with this but I've got my boards in the lowest mounting hole and the side stand still drags before the board on the left side.

The Road King is an inch higher in the rear, something to keep in mind with the SG, it's got the short rear shocks.
