I also put the bombers (slash down) with the black end caps on my Road King. At first I rode the bike without the baffles. VERY deep throaty sound but could get obnoxious if I got on it. The wife also developed ringing ears after an extended ride. I put in the mid range baffles and while it's not a LOUD bike anymore (won't set off car alarms or wake the neighbors) it's loud enoungh. I also needed to use the Vance & Hines fuelpak with the mufflers because the bike developed excessive decel popping.
I installed the FL-Xied-10's and it took care of what little popping I had.
Your best bet it to attend a local Poker Run or Bike Night and listen to the different scooters ( of course, those like yours ) and pick a set that sound pleasing to you. Also remember that different induction and cam shafts will have a effect on the sound.
Here are a couple sites you need to save, jafrum.com, newenough.com, motorcyclegear.com, leatherup.com, and denniskirk.com. For the money and service afer the sale, and quality, Rush Racing products slipons are top stuff, and also a sponsor of this forum. Also ck out FuelMoto.com if you are going into "big" perf mods in the future
Ditto to what 2kids3pets and dlongo8241 have stated. Changed out the stock pipe for reinharts in the first week. Not so loud that we need earplugs but loud enough so that others hear us.
Not quite sure what you're looking for, can only tell what I've got. I wanted something that was quieter than what I had which was Rush mufflers through V&H dresser duels. This was giving me headaches. Did some research and listened to sound samples(for whatever good that does), decided to try Klock Werks Super Saver 4" slip-ons. At idle and light throttle they are fairly quite, when you gouge the throttle they have a deep loud response. Instant love.
They are a little louder than I want but the "tone" is what I wanted. On a stock exhaust or a cat type exhaust these would be a little quieter.
Got the Klock Werks from Direct Harley Parts for around $300-310.
Ask a dozen people, get a dozen answers. Hell, they're all good but I went with these >
$335.95 through my Dealer. Just the right level of sound and Harley character to please my ear without annoying drone or excessive loudness. And, by the way, they do offer a quieter baffle and a louder performance baffle. I stayed with the originally installed baffle. If you want to blast, remove the lock-screw and just take them out altogether.
