Slipons and exhaust in general is kind of like music or cars: it's subjective and what one person loves, you may hate. I have run complete systems and slipons and still haven't found what I am looking for. I have some used Rush slipons coming from a fellow forum member and am hoping these will settle me down finally...at least the wife will stop bitching about my ever-growing collection in the garage...

Same here, I have cut and welded baffles, added packing and more to get the sound I want, my bike came with 4 inch V&H slip ons, the problem I was having is I wanted louder pipes without loosing the deep tone, with the small baffles it was loud but sounded higher pitched and raspy, I think I will buy the Reinhart 2.5 baffles and see how they do, from what I have heard the Reinharts sound good
I like American Custom's idea of sending in your stock OEM muffs and having them professionally modified, not a bad price point either. And, I really like the idea of being able to quickly change out the baffles depending on what I'm up to that day. When I feel like it, I'm going to go ahead and send them my stock muffs and order two different pairs of baffles; besides, my stock take-off muffs are just collecting dust in the garage attic anyways.
I've "been there done that" with the loud pipes thing, but now that I take longer rides/trips with my touring bike, I like running a little quieter, keeps the wife happier too. Currently, I have a pair of SE 1-piece slash-downs, with EPA stamp, on my EGC and they are exactly what I expected them to be, mellow with a mild bark when you get on it. The SE's are "just nice" for those special times when I'm cruising the boulevard in full badass mode, sporting the latest HD Motorclothes collection, and jammin' my Barry Manilow greatest hits CD; it's very important that the peasants on the sidewalk aren't distracted in any way from enjoying me too.
I think, that you need to carefully consider your riding habits on this one. Louder pipes can be fun, but on a long trip or riding in a group they can "get old" after awhile. Quieter pipes, like my SE's, are nice for trips, but not very satisfying when one of those "wild hair" moments strike. Ah, but if you could have it both ways, and in just a few minutes and a couple of screws later...

I went with the Rinehart TDs (see sig). Overall I’m fairly happy with them, there are times I wish they were just a little tamer. I’ve been looking at the Bub 7 Stealths.
Looking at new slips on all the differant sites is like looking at shoes, clothes, or any other accessory. So many freaking brands, styles, sizes, with or without baffles, what's a simple man to do. Been spending a lot of time on the American Custom site. Price looks good, not sure you get the actual sound from from computer speakers. Anyone have good/bad/indifferant feedback?
Thanks
I ordered the America Customs w/o baffles for my '12 flhr. Quick delivery. Easy install. Couple days later wife and I took a 2200 mile trip. Sounded good and got better after bout 1k miles. Wife says they are not too loud. Stock head pipes. Now, with 3k miles on them I'm getting a lil decel pop. Tuner in the near future. Probably be a TFI as it was a 'big bang for the bucks' on my Deluxe. Kept the oem's. Never know. May need to put'em back on in the future and if so I'll have a set and won't be paying an inflated price.
What's the diff between the regular:
And the racing?
The one with only Rinehart on it is a 3.5" muffler and the One with Rinehart Racing is a 4" muffler.
They both use the same 2.25" baffle. The larger volume of the 4" diameter absorbs more of the pressure wave in the exhaust pulses and makes it a little quieter and a little deeper than the 3.5".
The 4" Rineharts are an awesome touring muffler, somewhat loud, but not too loud, they sound great.
I have the 4" Rineharts and just changed to the 2.5" high flow baffle. The 2.5" baffle is louder and deeper sounding than the 2.25" baffles.
