Default Rear wheel removal question

I'm trying to remove my rear wheel off my 2011 Ultra with ABS so that I can take it to the local indy and have a new tire installed.
I've never had a problem removing the rear wheel off my 2004 Ultra.
For some strange reason I can't seem to remove the axle. I've removed the e-clip, cone nut, etc. I can turn the axle with some effort but I can't seem to pull it free from the swing-arm. Is there a trick to this or do I just need more brute strength?

Use a dead blow rubber mallet. Knocks out to left side from rear. If it is stuck you may need a large punch to follow deeper.

More brut strength. Seems some corrosion is in there holding the axle. Make sure to use anti-sieze when reinstalling.

Are you sure that you don't have all of the weight of the tire/rim on the bolt? I'm sure that's a stupid question but sometimes things ge overlooked...........

Had the exact same problem. I had to use a 5/8 brass rod and a hammer. Had to drive it out. Axle was corroded. Shop manual said to use anti cease on the axle. Sure was none on there when I took it off.

Thanks everyone for the help! This is an awesome place and a wealth of information. I did use a dead blow hammer and a large punch. I took my time and I was able to get the axle out. What was strange is that I've removed rear wheels numerous times in the past and I've never had this type of difficulty.

Called a local Indy to see if they could mount and balance a rear tire that I supplied. I was quoted a price of $65! They said the price would be $45 ($20 less) if I had purchased the tire from them. Seemed a little pricey. The last time I had a tire mounted and balanced (9/09) I paid $40 for an Indy near my place of employment.

Anyways, a part I had on order from the local HD shop was in, so I thought I would just take my rim and new tire there. They weren't very busy and mounted and balanced my tire. They are charged me:
1/2 hour labor: $42.50
wheel weights: $3.40
bullshit shop fee: $5.00 (I told them I would dispose of the old tire, but they said they still would have to charge me the shop fee, so they said to just leave the tire)
tax: $3.57

grand total: $54.47
seems high but at least they did it right away.

Oh, I also spoke to the mechanic about the difficulties I had removing the axle. He said it's not unusual and they run into that all the time. He even said they've had to use an air chisel one time. The tech said for some reason the axles seem to corrode even though they have anti-seize on them.

Again, thanks for all the help!

Brett

Brett...next time take it to a metric bike shop. They can remove the old tire and install the new one and balance it for a lot less than what you paid. The last one I had done (2 years ago) was $20 total, and they did it while I waited. It may cost a little more these days at the metric shops, but they do a pretty good job and for a lot less most of the time.

10-4 on the metric shop. I just found a fantastic Harley Wrench workin in a Kawasaki shop in our area. Hourly rates are much more reasonable.

Stealer will only get warranty work and possibly motor work incidental to warranty.

I'm proud, but I'm not stupid...ok maybe a little stupid at times.

BTW, do these boots make my but look big?
