I was thinking about moving up from a Softail Standard to a Street Glide or a Electra Glide Classic. So I need some input, on ABS and the security system. Is it worth the extra cost. I don't ride in the rain. I also been told that 2009 bikes and newer ride better then the 2008 and older." new frame and tire size" is that true.
Any help in what to look for would be great.
Thank you.
Just traded from the softail model to a 2012 street glide and am in the process of making it even more comfy.
The bike rides so MUCH better than the softail and all the extra goodies I now have come to appreciate like the bags, fairing, radio, better ride quality etc.
I haven't looked back since the day I bought it back.
I'm no help on the ABS, however, I have the Security System on my Ultra and I wouldn't opt for it again .... I find it to be a pain in the a$$ because of the fact that whenever you move it ( or do anything to the scooter ) you've got to have the FOB or the system goes crazy .... some guys will say "just throw the FOB in the bike" ... Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of security? .... just my .02 cents worth.
P.S. The 2009 and later scooters ( Touring ) are sooooo much nicer that the older units!
ABS on the Brembo brakes ('08 up) is a good idea (hard to lock the early brakes) but folks have been riding without forever. I would get ABS if ya didn't have to get the security system with it. I have seen lots of problem with that. The '09 up bikes do handle MUCH better, but the ride/comfort is no better? I'm not sure I'd get an older one unless money got real tight. Good luck!
We just totaled our 03 glides a week or so ago and I got a 2012 Classic and the wife got a 2010 ultra limited. Wow what a difference. Hadn't rode one before that and would have traded in heartbeat if I had. I like the security on the wifes and I plan on getting it for mine. ABS seems to work as advertized. One other thing I think is a must is cruise control, it works very well, easy to adjust. Thats my two cents.
