I did that to my 07 EG. After running it like that for over a year, a buddy of mine told me that the bumper bracket is also a support for your bags. If you load them with too much stuff the bags could crack around the pins that connect them to the bike and you can even mess up your fender. You're supposed to replace the bumper with a bracket they make that comes on the SG and other bikes that don't have the bumper stock. I got around to buying one one Ebay and my bike got stolen the day before it showed up at the house. So, it's still setting on my counter top...

I know that you pretty much have to pull the tire to remove the front one, but what about the rear? Any shortcuts to speak of?

Where you been.

Lots of posts attesting to the cooling effect of removing those bumpers.

Search is your friend.

It even looks cooler : >)

I removed the front bumper only since I heard that removing just the front not only makes the bike run cooler but adds 7 hp and 5 ft/lbs torque. Of course it's possible that applies only to white bikes.

I pulled the front bumper off no prob on my 06 but looking at the back you can tell it is part of the bracing for the saddlebags. My bros 2012 not the same you can pull the rear bumper and the bracing stays on. I like the look a lot better without.

i just took the rubbers out and left the chrome - now it begs for bag guards to complete the look.

The Ultra Limited doesn't come with a front bumper. I did pull the rear though........looks way better in my opinion.
