You can do what everyone else does and buy 91140-04 brace for $41.95 or the Drag Specialties equivalent

No need to pull the front tire, just need something long to punch the retainers.
Pretty easy. The rear is a no brainer, just remove it.

If it's an 09 and later. If it's an 08 and earlier you really want to add the brace or you risk the fender supports breaking.

You're supposed to replace the bumper with a bracket they make that comes on the SG and other bikes that don't have the bumper stock. I got around to buying one one Ebay and my bike got stolen the day before it showed up at the house. So, it's still setting on my counter top...
I believe this is true on the 08 and earlier bikes.

Hmm. I'll have to take a look at that. I've had the rear bumper off my 07 for about a year and never thought it could be an issue. Didn't look that it gave support to anything.
Thanks, I'll take another look.

First I removed them complete, used the 91140-04 brace and ran it for a couple of years. Currently I have put them back on w/o the rubber bumpers and kinda like the "nerf bar" look.
